UTR Volunteer Highlight: Marily Considine

April 18, 2015

Marily Considine has been volunteering with UTR at the USO at Fort Hood,Texas for seven years.  Marily volunteers because she loves being able to support those who sacrifice so much for her, her family and our country.

In Marily’s words:

Marily ConsidineThe smiles on service members’ faces when they see that they are not forgotten mean so much.

A National Guard Soldier walked in to record a video one day. I asked her how many children she had and she said, “twenty.” I was shocked at first, and then she told me that she was a teacher back home and she wanted to know if she could make a recording of herself reading a book for her students. Such a wonderful gift for her and them!

As an Army wife myself, I know how special these books and videos are. My husband has been on multiple deployments, and my children love the books and videos from Dad. On the videos, he not only reads a book to them but also sings songs and says their bedtime prayers with them. Each evening, my children would watch the videos and it was almost like he was there helping out with their bedtime routine.

I know how important these UTR videos are to my family, and I love being able to help other military families create videos for their families.

It is an honor to serve our military personnel and be a part of the USO and the UTR program.

It’s an honor for us to serve with volunteers like Marily. We’re so grateful for all you do.
