UTR Volunteer Highlight: Jeremy Galton

April 13, 2015

United Through Reading Volunteer, RP2 (SW) Jeremy Galton, of the US New York, has been supporting UTR as an Active Duty Coordinator since December 2014. He also supported the program in 2003 on his first ship for about 8 months. Jeremy says that the smiles of parents who receive videos from home of their children watching their UTR videos make his volunteer efforts more than worthwhile.

In fact, one woman on Jeremy’s ship sent a UTR video to her son and at home her husband recorded the son watching the video. The little boy kept checking under the entertainment center to see if his mom was in the TV reading him a book! Stories like that, and the priceless connection parents and children can get from a simple video with a story, are why Jeremy chooses to give his time to UTR.

Jeremy knows being away from mom, dad, uncles, or aunts can be very hard on the children them and sometimes pictures just aren’t enough, the children need to hear their voices too. He’s thankful United Through Reading can provide that opportunity.

In March 2015, with Jeremy’s leadership and encouragement, the USS New York set a command goal of 50 videos to be recorded. They succeeded with 52 video recordings. Bravo, Jeremy!
