UTR Volunteer Highlight: Doug Stewart

April 15, 2015

Doug Stewart’s work with UTR began more than six years ago and has included serving as a trustee for UTR and leading the effort to create a major fundraising event in Washington DC.

The 2nd Tribute to Military Families which will be held at the Mellon Auditorium on May 20, 2015, is the result of Doug’s tireless work on UTR’s behalf. He’s built a stellar team of advocates who have made a real difference in our funding efforts.

Here’s how Doug puts it:

It’s really rewarding to know I can help in some way — that I can personally help military families stay connected. Knowing that service members can read to their children from some of the most remote places in the world is what I focus on every day.

It was great to lead the effort to host our first Tribute to Military Families dinner in Washington DC in 2014. The event was attended by about twenty flag officers, ten members of Congress, military families and assorted industry leaders. In all, over 300 people attended. The event was instrumental in gaining great visibility for United Through Reading on the East Coast.

I have had the pleasure of working with the most enthusiastic and dedicated people in the UTR family. I am thankful every day that I am a part of this organization knowing that we are making a difference in the lives of our military families. Because of the dedication of the Board, the volunteers and the staff, this is an organization like no other I have ever worked with. They deliver on all of their commitments every day.

We couldn’t do it without you.

Thanks to Doug and all of our volunteers.
