United Through Reading Holds Inaugural Tribute to Military Families Event in Washington, DC

TMF roomUnited Through Reading held its inaugural Tribute to Military Families event on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium in Washington, DC. The title sponsor for the event was BAE Systems, Inc. The gala celebrated the impact United Through Reading has had over the past 25 years in connecting military families during separation.

The mission of United Through Reading was celebrated by the 350 guests in attendance, including members of Congress; active-duty and retired military and their families; Wounded, Ill, and Injured; sponsors; and other key influencers.  The event shared highlights and other videos that personified the incredible impact United Through Reading has had on military families. The event helped to raise nearly $370,000.

The keynote speakers for the event, General James Amos, the 35th Commandant of the Marine Corps, and his wife Mrs. Bonnie Amos, shared stories of how they have been “United Through Reading.” Also celebrated at the Tribute to Military Families, were the Honorable Mike Rogers (AL-3), the Honorable Susan Davis (CA-53), the Chaplain community of the United States military and BAE Systems, Inc.

United Through Reading continues to offer military service members the opportunity to be video-recorded reading storybooks to their children at home from 200 locations around the world.
