STEM the Summer Slide with United Through Reading and Reading Is Fundamental

United Through Reading has partnered with Reading Is Fundamental® (RIF) to help military kids avoid the summer slide with Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) themed books titles!
Summer Slide is what happens when young minds sit idle during summer break. Children who do not read over the summer may lose more than two months of reading achievement. And, because summer reading loss is cumulative, by the end of 6th grade, children who lose reading skills over the summer could be two years behind classmates who don’t slide!
During the month of July, United Through Reading locations will feature a special collection of titles that are a subset of Reading is Fundamental’s STEAM-themed (Science, Technology, Engineering, ARTS and Math) Multicultural Book Collection. Books that feature a STEM theme are not only fun, but they build on a child’s natural curiosity and stimulate imagination and innovation! Through our STEM the Summer Slide campaign, military parents can read great STEM books to their children this summer from wherever they’re serving in an effort to keep kids reading and avoid the summer slide!
