Help United Through Reading Break the Reading Record This Year!

September 30, 2015

unnamedAt United Through Reading, we’re gearing up for Jumpstart’s Read for the Record®, a campaign to mobilize millions of children and adults to take part in the world’s largest shared reading experience! Join us in helping to break the world reading record (again!) for the most people reading the same book on the same day – October 22, 2015.

This year’s Read for the Record book is Not Norman: A Goldfish Story, an adorable story written by Kelly Bennett and illustrated by Noah Z. Jones. The humorous tale is about a child who finds a new friend in an unexpected place. We’re sure our military kids will love it as much as we do!

A special year, Jumpstart is celebrating the 10th anniversary of the global campaign which generates support for high-quality early learning and highlights the importance of building children’s vocabulary and love for reading. In the month of October, United Through Reading invites YOU to get involved and help United Through Reading and Jumpstart  break the world record!

  • Volunteers: If you are a United Through Reading Active Duty Volunteer, you can help us Read for the Record by planning a reading event and encouraging your Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines or Coasties to pick up a copy of Not Norman and read to the kids in their life!  Then send us your photos or share your activity with us on Facebook this month at facebook.com/unitedthroughreading and be entered to win a special prize pack of holiday books and props from UTR!

  • Military Families: If you are a military spouse, get your kids ready for October 22 — the day to break the record — and be ready to record the reactions to their UTR videos!  Share your pictures, videos  and stories with us on Facebook, or send them to stories@utr.org. You can also register to read and help break the record with Jumpstart at readfortherecord.org.

  • Friends: If you are a friend or supporter of UTR you can help us continue to serve our military families with fun and engaging campaigns like Read for the Record.  Visit us online to donate.  You can also get involved in the reading fun too and become part of the global movement supporting high-quality early learning.
