United Through Reading Endowment Fund
United Through Reading was established in 1989, and we're planning on being around until our vision — that ALL children will feel the security of caring adult relationships and develop a love of reading through the read-aloud experience— is fulfilled. We realize that is a big vision, so we have taken steps to assure our future financial stability by establishing the United Through Reading Endowment Fund at both the Rancho Santa Fe Foundation and the San Diego Foundation.
An endowment fund is one in which the principal will never be spent. Instead, United Through Reading will receive a percentage of the income that is generated from the investment each year. As the endowment grows, this annual income will help guarantee our ability to provide our critically important outreach programs to keep families connected through reading aloud together.
The United Through Reading Endowment Fund at the Rancho Santa Fe Foundation was started with a generous contribution of $13,739 from the Lynn Kimball Memorial Fund at the Rancho Santa Fe Foundation. Lynn, along with her husband Mike, was a supporter of United Through Reading until her sudden death in June of 2000. Her family chose us to carry on her legacy because of her personal love of reading, which she imparted to her own children and the children that she taught as an elementary school teacher and librarian. When told of our new endowment fund at the Rancho Santa Fe Foundation, Mike Kimball generously agreed to make the charter donation. We are grateful to Mike and his family for their support and belief in our mission.
We are proud to announce that the United Through Reading Endowment Fund at the San Diego Foundation has been opened through the commitment and generous contributions of our Board of Trustees. Our Trustees believe so strongly in our mission that every member has made a gift to our endowment. We thank them for their leadership in this campaign, and, on their behalf, we now invite you to make an investment in children and your community.
