Month of the Military Child

The Little ChampsApril is the Month of the Military Child, and United Through Reading is celebrating military children with gratitude for their unique service to our country.

During the month of April, military parents can read The Little C.H.A.M.P.S at United Through Reading locations around the globe, and send that recording home to their CHAMP to remind them of just how special and appreciated they are.

Month of the Military Child 2014C.H.A.M.P.S stands for Child Hero Attached to Military Personnel. In addition to celebrating our C.H.A.M.P.S and validating their military-connected challenges, The Little C.H.A.M.P.S seeks to build a bridge of understanding between military children and their civilian classmates and neighbors. More than 60% of military families live in over 4,000 communities nationwide.1

Research shows that “[t]oo many of our military children in public schools feel like their classmates and teachers do not understand what they are going through”2 The Little C.H.A.M.P.S, when shared with a military child’s classroom, can help to change that sentiment.

Month of the Military Child 2014Children who receive their military parent’s C.H.A.M.P.S United Through Reading recording are encouraged to share the DVD with their teachers and their classroom in an effort to build a bridge of understanding and celebrate the service of military children.
