School of Nursing, SDSUCarolyn received her B.S.N from the University of Michigan and a Master's Degree in Maternal and Child Health from Teacher's College, Columbia University. She taught Parent/Child Nursing at San Diego State University for 28 years and retired in the year 2000. She has been on the Board of Trustees of United Through Reading since 1996, and has enjoyed active participation in the Youth Reading Role Models® program and chaired the Development Committee for four years. She is married to Dr. Clifford W. Colwell, Department Head of the Division of Orthopedic Surgery at Scripps Clinic, and they have three children and five grandchildren. Her knowledge of growth and development, and her experiences as a pediatric nurse, parent and grandparent have continued to support and increase her commitment to the mission of United Through Reading.
