Alliances

Our alliances include organizations that join together with United Through Reading to help accomplish our mission.

USO

USOIn 2006, United Through Reading® expanded its nationally recognized program to include thousands of additional military families by uniting forces with USO to make the program available at select USO centers worldwide. To date, over 80,000 Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines have participated in United Through Reading’s Military Program at more than 60 USO host-sites including airport locations, military installations, and centers overseas. Pearson Foundation

Pearson FoundationSince 2008, the Pearson Foundation has generously donated thousands of books, DVDs and postage-paid envelopes to our United Through Reading participants so that they are able to take part in Jumpstart’s annual Read For the Record. Read for the Record is an international campaign to bring preschool children together with grownups in their lives to read the same book, on the same day, in communities all over the world - all to raise awareness about the crisis in early literacy.

James Patterson's ReadKiddoRead.com

James Patteson's ReadKiddoRead.orgBest-selling author James Patterson is a fantastic advocate of children’s literature. We have collaborated with Patterson’s notable ReadKiddoRead .com website to make United Through Reading’s recommended booklist more powerful, dynamic and useful to our audiences of separated families.

Reach Out and Read

Reach Out and ReadUnited Through Reading® and Reach Out and Read (ROR) formed an alliance so that caregivers in ROR’s Military Initiative may offer United Through Reading’s Military Program as a healthy prescription during pediatric checkups to military families who are trying to build routines and reassure young children who are being tested by separation and deployment. Currently, ROR benefits 90,000 children of military families at 35 U.S. military installations.

National Education Association’s Read Across America Day in 2010

NEA's Read Across America Day in 2010United Through Reading® joins the National Education Association’s Read Across America Day in 2010 to ensure that separated families we serve in all our programs may participate in NEA's national reading celebration, an annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading on March 2, the birthday of beloved children's author Dr. Seuss.

Military Child Education Coalition

Military Child Education CoalitionUnited Through Reading and Military Child Education Coalition (MCEC) are like-minded in their efforts to use literature in a way that fosters skills for resilience and strong parent-child connections.  MCEC’s Tell Me a Story (TMAS) events offer an opportunity for families to bond around a carefully selected children’s book and related activities.  United Through Reading’s Military Program is a way to extend the benefit of that event throughout deployment by reading the featured story aloud on DVD.
